NCCRC is handicap accessible!       yOU ARE HERE:

The North Country Community Recreation Center has finished building its 200' X 85' outdoor skating rink, thanks to funds donated by Danny Dagesse.  The new rink will be used for ice skating in the winter, and skateboarding in the summer.  It is surrounded by four-foot high galvanized dasher boards which keep the water in while flooding the rink, and make the skating rink suitable for ice hockey.  A concrete pad reduces the amount of time needed to maintain the ice, and increases the quality of the ice.  VR Concrete did the concrete work.  Dagesse, who donated funds for the entire project, selected the contractor.

Plans for a full slate of programs include skating lessons, skate rental, broom ball, hockey, and more activities that will be announced later.

Because the rink is regulation hockey size, the Rec Center encourages league and pick up hockey games.  A temporary shed with benches will be available for putting skates on, and to warm up.  Plans call for construction of a permanent building next summer which will have bathrooms, storage, a place to put skates on, and an office.  An operations committee is presently working on the rink schedule, rules, and mechanics of maintaining high quality ice.

Six light poles were installed around the rink, and will extend the rink's use in the winter.  The rink opening is scheduled for the end of December, dependent on the weather.  Plans are underway to develop other applications for the skating rink during the off seasons.  A skateboard park, flea market, sports activities, and concerts are being considered.  The skating rink construction is part of a larger plan to create the outdoor recreational area.  This was first priority, and other plans include a patio and children's playground.
