                            Frequently Asked Questions:

_ 1. I’m not a super strong swimmer; will Masters Swimming be right for me?

The only requirement is to be able to swim 25 yard (length of the pool) unassisted. We can coach you through the rest.

                            2. What are the workouts like?

They are structured around the abilities of the class. These include several strokes along with exercises to isolate the different area of each stroke, including use of kickboards, pull buoys etc.

                            3. Are they coached?

Yes, coaches are here to help you develop your swimming to your desired skills level. They will encourage and challenge, never push you.

                            4. How often do we practice?

As a group, we practice twice a week: Wednesdays and Friday 6-7 p.m.

                            5. Can I swim during non- Masters Swimming hours?

Absolutely! You are encouraged to swim as much as you want. You can keep track of your own progress in your workbook including both group workouts and your own.

                            6. What should I bring?

Swimsuit, goggles (we have some available for purchase), swim cap for those with long hair (we have some available for purchase), a towel and maybe some sandals.

                            7. What should I expect at the first workout?

The coaches will give you fitness test to see where you’re starting so at the end, you can see the progress you made. We will explain some of the drills and exercises we will be doing that day.

                            8. Are there any swimming terms or special lingo I should know?

The coaches will teach you all of that as we go, but you’re welcome to do your own research and learn ahead.

                            9. Do we compete in meets?

For this initial season, we do not plan to complete. As time progresses, we’ll re-evaluate the prospect of competing with other masters swimming groups.

                            10. How much does it cost?

The cost is $20 per month of $50 for the three month season. Drop in session is $5. This helps cover pool maintenance, heating and staff.

                            11. Ok, I’m convinced. How do I sign up?

Go to the NCCRC during open hours, fill out sign-up form, pay dues and then show up to practice.
