About The Swimathon
Otters and members of the public come together to support the Otters Swim Team Program. The Otters team began back in 2007, and is a community wide team comprised of youths ages 7 – 18. We compete against other regional teams, from Vermont and New Hampshire. This year, we added the Otter Pups, a developmental team for ages 4-6. Our goal is to continue to develop competitive athletes and lifetime swimmers.
By participating in the swim a thon, teammates and community members have the chance raise funds to help defray the costs of equipment upgrades and new purchases, team suits and coaching.
How it works:
Participants must bring a person to count laps as they are completed. Each will be assigned a lane in which to swim the ½ or 1 mile. This is 36 for ½ mile or 72 laps for 1 mile in the pool. The swim shall be completed in the allotted 2 hour time span. The swim does not have to be continuous; in other words, participants may stop and take a breather.
Virtually anyone can participate:
Virtual participation allows creative options for people to join the Otters Swimathon and raise money for the team. There are many different reasons why someone may opt to be a virtual swimmer –schedule conflicts, limitations due to injury, or maybe just haven’t trained for the event. Whether you plan to be in Antarctica that day, whether you do your event the week before, or whether you swim it in your dreams, you can still fundraise for the cause. Just sign up and raise your money (just $25 minimum for Virtuals) Oh, and if you're swimming elsewhere, don't forget to send us a postcard or email a photo!
